Grace vs. Works

Ok Guys look,

We are just going to have to agree to disagree then

You are saying that Righteouseness can only be attained by Keeping the Law.

While I am saying Faith in him who Justifys the Ungodly puts you above the Law, and Righteouse in the sight of God.

BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED" (Romans 9:30-33)

So we are just going to have to agree to dis agree OK

Peace

On the 'Slippery Christian Beliefs' scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being most slippery way of dodging the question, I give this an 8 for the "agree to disagree" cop-out, and an additional 1.5 for the "obligatory bible verse in all uppercase letters", for a total of 9.5. Nice touch; it's gonna be hard for another christian to beat that score!

On the 'Slippery Christian Beliefs' scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being most slippery way of dodging the question, I give this a 7, for length of diatribe.
It should be given an ELEVEN for being copied.

Romans 2:12-24 12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; 13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. 14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: 15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

Though this section of Romans is discussing the current state of the Jews in God’s eyes, this passage clearly shows that the Law applies to Gentiles. Even those who are unfamiliar with the law carry the stain of the sins on thier conscience and will be judged for thier transgressions.

Romans 2:25-27 25 For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision. 26 Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? 27 And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?

Basically says that even if you are not circumcised, if you observe and obey the Law you are righteous in the eyes of the Lord.

Romans 3:19-20 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

No one can be justified in the sight of God by keeping the Law; the Law only teaches us what is sinful. [Psalm 143:2 do not put your servant on trial, no one is virtuous by your standards.] This is NOT saying the Law is dead, it is simply saying that impossible to live by the Law ALONE.

Romans 3:29-31 29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: 30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. 31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

Pretty fucking self explanitory.

Romans 6:15 15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

We've already seen that the Law alone will not grant salvation, this is saying that faith alone will not grant salvation. Even one of true faith must avoid sin, and we know what is sinful because we have the Law.

So in conclusion, the debate in Romans states that BOTH faith and the Law are prerequisite to salvation.

Does it work the same way for monster posts like the one that Razor copied and pasted?

Nah, Just put in one phrase.... Google might hate you for putting in a whole paragraph, let alone a whole post.

But yea, putting in one phrase or sentence will be enough.

Razor,

A few, hopefully, quick questions.

1) If the law can be "fulfilled" could just anyone have done it?

2) How does one (Jesus or anyone else) "fulfill" law?

3) When was the OT law "fulfilled"?

4) Where is it written that the law is in effect until someone "fulfills" it?

I'm trying to get a little persective on your whole argument and these are the questions that immediately came to mind.

Forgive me for saying this, but you sound a bit like the Devil trying to entrap me into some sort of snare.

Hear that, Serenity? Here I am thinking I was watching an intelligent conversation when in reality you're just another one of Satan's whores seducing a Righteous Christian to the Dark Side*wheeze*

It should be given an ELEVEN for being copied.

Christian Mind Training is really paying off!

Razor, I also noticed that you didn't offer any thoughts on my post. Dissapointing, but hardly surprising.
