James Smith
Hello all, My name is James Smith and I’m writing a book on ex-Christians and their experiences. The book looks at the negative emotional, intellectual and mental consequences of Christianity, and will hopefully be finished by the start of next year. As part of my research for this book, I am looking to carry out a series of research interviews with ex-Christians. The interviews will take about 30-45 minutes, will be conducted by Skype or phone, and will ask about interviewees' experience with Christianity and moral, intellectual and sexual guilt. The interviews will be completely private and anonymous; pseudonyms will be assigned to participants in the book. I will also pay interviewees $10 – however interviewees will have to have a PayPal account in order to be paid. If you are interested in participating or would simply like more information, please get in touch at exchristiantestimonies@hotmail.co.uk James Smith

Could you post more details regarding the project sponsors and host institution? Also, I think it would be prudent to post your ethics statement and informed consent. Thanks.

raoul
One negative consequence of being an ex-christian: Starting to feel like a sideshow freak. don't ever think that Pudd - they're the fucking freaks because of all of the garbage they're fed and NEVER question. The longer I'm away from that crap, the MORE convinced I am that they're the walking freakshow because of their behavior, lack of thinking, self righteous know it all behavior, etc. I have NEVER seen more honesty than what I've seen over here - people pouring out their hearts and thoughts to others who immediately jump in and offer help. The crazy thing about this site is that this is the REAL church or at least what a real church should've been doing but has failed miserably since its inception. Positivist
I am highly suspicious of this request for subjects. $10 indicates poor or no financial support for this project. You don't know if your private information will be protected either. And a hotmail account to recruit subjects? Are you kidding me? Who the hell are you really and why are you doing this?

The crazy thing about this site is that this is the REAL church or at least what a real church should've been doing but has failed miserably since its inception. It's more the fact that this is, what, the third, fourth time since I joined the forum late last year that we've had this sort of request. They want us to do questionnaires, tell our stories, yada, yada, yada. But you know what really pisses me off? Not one of them has ever stuck around to actually interact with us for a bit. I've sent emails before, and they rarely reply once they've got what they wanted out of us. It's so arrogant, and such jerkish behaviour, and makes me feel as though I'm in a zoo, being poked, prodded, and looked over. I am the ex-christian specimen. And I love the way these people always seem to assume that we are so eager to tell them everything, that they never even come back and chat. What are the chances that this dude will come back and discuss our concerns with us? Slim, at best. Just look at the OP- it's nothing but a form letter. This may be an online forum, but I am still a fucking person, how about some fucking etiquette? A bit of respect?

Astreja
Uh, James... There are already books about leaving Christianity, written by ex-Christians. Dan Barker is one of these. Before you spend another moment of your life on this project, ask yourself these marketing questions: What works are already in print, and what do I have to say that's substantially different? Do I, James Smith, have a personal experience with leaving religion? If you have never experienced the stress and heartbreak of having your worldview turned upside-down, and if you have nothing new to say on the topic from the point of view of an interested observer, perhaps you should be "researching" something where you already have a personal connection and a substantial body of knowledge. We aren't going to write your book for you. I'll include nude pictures for another $10 Well, Mr. Smith did specify that he wants to explore the subject of sexual guilt. Perhaps he's a voyeur with some profound religious hangups ?

This may be an online forum, but I am still a fucking person, how about some fucking etiquette? A bit of respect? right on and whats worse a real author is usually in request of a particular situation. why not PM a user who has posted something that he feels would be interesting. to simply post this in here is classless. and then to insult us with $10 makes it worse. What if its a bestseller and our personal stories make this person millions? Im not the jealous type but our experiences make us who we are and for someone to profit on someone elses really pisses me off.

Kinda like this: http://articles.nydailynews.com/2012-06-24/news/32385269_1_heidi-fleiss-mike-starr-celebrity-rehab Jennie Ketcham left the porn industry to get away from the exploitation. Only to get on Sober house with Dr Drew and running into all over again. This excerpt is pretty similar to what I have witnessed on here. While trying to recover from the emotional scars of religion, many of us hit a point where we stop and claim our lives as our own again. It's different for every person, but at some point it happens. Maybe the guy was moved for some reason and inspired to write, yet he is poor.
