Goodbye Jesus

Influence of the Holy Spirit

This forum has been the best thing for me.  It would be so tough to reject Christianity thinking that you were the only one who didn't get it.  You'd always think that the problem was you and not the religion itself.  It is wonderful beyond description to find out that there are others, and that they have experienced the exact same shit, and had the exact same conflicts.

Ditto.

I wish I'd known of this place when I was a teenager and questioning for the first time. Or at least, a place like it.

I think it is human psychology that can be overcome with the right experiences.

I don't think these traits are hard wired per say. I am only making a biased guess though. I am in love with humanity despite the ugliness.

I think the majority of people (not everyone, but most of them) could be educated, but unfortunately school is not teaching creative and critical thinking, it’s only teaching the student to conform. That’s why it’s important to teach your kids to think, reason, argue and make their own choice, even if you not always like it. Like the other thread, the person where his parents want him to become religious. That’s a sin, if there ever were any sins.

Kids have to learn how to choose and take the responsibility for their actions, before they get out into society, but it’s so frigging hard as a parent to do it. I feel like a baby when it comes to responsibility, because I threw every problem on the Lard, and nothing happened, and I got upset and frustrated why no miracles happened, and then in the end I get to eat it!

Yay for Jebuz "The Rebuz" Crispus the Lard who didn't teach me responsibility by expected me to trust him anyhoo.

You did the best you could based on what you were taught. The bible writers made promises. And our folks made promises that the bible is true.

Maybe some day people will make some of the promises made by biblegawd come true through science.

Absolutely. I just hope humanity would calm down a bit and take a serious look at themselves and start thinking. Maybe one day.

That's correct. Consider that you have people that are totally anarchistic, and without control, and you are the soon to be dictator.

You gain control and make people behave; you need a punishment that works better than just death, the eternal punishment works well for this. So now they behave a little better in fear of the greater punishment.

Then you have the people that are poor and doesn’t get food and see the rich people live in wealth, you tell them that they will go to heaven, so they will accept their miserable life, in expectance to the reward at the end. So they keep calm too.

Shit, now I'm starting to believe in reincarnation. Hans, I am convinced that you were Eusebius in a previous lifetime. Let me hear you say "dominae, dominae or carpe dium" or something.

There's just as much evidence for reincarnation as there is for heaven. (Which is, nothing that can't be disputed.) But reincarnation, at least, doesn't require devotion to a particular deity above all others.

This is the Republican Platform. The same empty promises that the bible writers made. Fear and desire.

Hey now. I'm a card carrying Republican.

Not quite sure what a total change in god philosophy is going to do to my political philosophy.

Maybe I'll be a pannist about it.

of course, christians see this place as the pit of hell.  I can just imagine the shock when they read some of the jokes.

HELL YEAH!

You know how I found this?  I googled "fundamentalists anonymous", looking for a milder version of christianity, something that I could not become a full time missionary and still believe.

I was SHOCKED when I first read "ex-christian".  I thought, holy shit, who would ever admit to THAT?  That's like just fucking beggin God to fry ya.

Then I started doing lots and lots of reading, and I have no problem calling myself an atheist.  God (at least YHWH) is bunk.  I am sure of it.

So you basically de-converted (deflated he, he) after you found this site and studied? That’s amazing. Very cool! Hey Guys, we have someone here that we unscrewed the mind plugs on!

(Or else He is absolutely real, completely schizophrenic and I'm totally screwed)

Well, aren’t we all? (And I didn’t mean “all” as in “all my personalities”, but “all” as in “all here on the site”, ok?)

We have been betrayed. Small Government is replaced by Christian understanding and values from what I can see. But I can change my mind as the picture becomes clearer for me.

You are a Republican and not a neocon.

I think we need more atheistic republicans. The idea of a small government is the right idea. Socialism have some good things, but tend to expand the government to extreme proportions. Small gov, lots of freedom, pannism works too.

I see neocon used here quite a bit. Not sure exactly what that is.

Another one I see used is - ROFL or something like that, referring to laughter, I think.

Real Republicans in office would be nice. Or Libertarians....to me at least.

The neocon is one that wants an Empire and not a Democratic Republic. They use religion to get support. Just like the Dems do. dubya is a neocon.

I see democrats as the party of handouts and freebies and welfare and affirmative action.

I see republicans as the party of entrepreneurs, free enterprise, and personal responsibility.

On the other hand, I could be complete fucked up, just like about religion.

I was a big Bush supporter up until he went into Iraq. I knew that was a fucked up move from the start. Now, we're completely screwed over there. I mean, Arabs LIVE for this fighting shit.

And how many people killed? Man. Probably more than ever died under Sadman Hussein. Feel bad for em.

Yea, kinda puts a crimp in what the economy and world relations could have been otherwise. I'm tellin ya man religion is being used to ram rod this whole thing. Playing on peoples desires and fears. Playing on superstitious bigotry.

Theres plenty of fucked up countries that could use our help. Why Iraq? Why Isreal ass kissing? Why making muslim countries look worse than we are. We have bloody hands too. I never agreed with everything Ronald Reagan did, Bush Senior, and especially dubya. It's one thing to get your man in office and another not to hold them accountable when they betray you, and Americans in general. Politicians are dirty.

Yeah, I think everyone believes that there is a whole lot more to the Iraq thing than meets the eye.

I don't really trust any politicians. Dishonesty is a mandatory requirement to live in Washington. The money flows to where the lips best meet the anus. No one looks out for the best interests of the country. It's all about money and powerful influences and special interests.

But, it's still the best gig in the world living here. But it sounds like Hans has it ok too.

AMANDA:  READ MY LIPS  EX_CHRISTIAN

This ain't the intermediate sunday school class.  I was a praise and worship leader in several different churches.  Asked Jeesuss into my heart 25 years ago.

And? So I am curious as to what that means... and I know I should be careful for what I ask...

You're pretty cool about it though.

I did enjoy your response tremendously... brought laughter... in a positive way! Really! Maybe all this is great material for a great sitcom... think about it. Your humor is impressive... even directed in a derrogatory fashion towards me... and that takes real talent!

One thing I'd like to share... I haven't found a Sunday school class I've liked in years.... so I apologize if I sound like that! :ugh:

We are more of a Republican than any politician can be. Gota keepem honest and who cares if that means admiting to dems that our party fucked the pooch. As you say " Dishonesty is a mandatory requirement to live in Washington. The money flows to where the lips best meet the anus. No one looks out for the best interests of the country. Will dems have as much honesty? Some will.

Hi Amanda - no, it just seemed demeaning. Like we had never read the Bible or anything. Not too much you can tell us that we haven't heard. On the other hand, how well versed are you?

Even your description is confusing. Are you new age, or fundamentalist christian, or what? I saw some of your posts on the Romans 1 thread that were not conventional thinking at all. Your bible interpretation seems to be a little, how should I say, weird?

Amanda we were raised fundy. What do you expect? Interpretation is irrevelant anyways, because the holy spook failed in giving everyone the same understanding.

Your points are interesting but are very moot points.
