Goodbye Jesus

The Doctrine Of Hell

SWIM

Recommended Posts

Could it be that I have been chosen to be saved now and you chosen to be saved later? Sure.
Or, could it be that --

In exchange for obedience, Christianity promises salvation in an afterlife; but in order to elicit obedience through this promise, Christianity must convince men that they need salvation, that there is something to be saved from. Christianity has nothing to offer a happy man living in a natural, intelligible universe. If Christianity is to gain a motivational foothold, it must declare war on earthly pleasure and happiness, and this, historically, has been its precise course of action. In the eyes of Christianity, man is sinful and helpless in the face of God, and is potential fuel for the flames of hell. Just as Christianity must destroy reason before it can introduce faith, so it must destroy happiness before it can introduce salvation.

-- George H Smith, Atheism: The Case Against God

Yes, it very-well could be is, eh?

Enjoy your "Salvation™", Kratos. At this point in time -- sadly -- it's all that you're capable of.

"...Christianity... must destroy happiness before it can introduce salvation." (George H. Smith)

An ideology that deliberately sets out to destroy happiness can not have anything further to say on the subject of happiness. And this is why...

As humans, we experience many sensations thanks to our physically-based senses. Early on in our lives, most of us have experienced a wide range of emotions and sensory inputs and have a pretty good idea of likes and dislikes, pleasure and pain, happiness and unhappiness.

Enter a religion that denies the value of our pre-existing physical experiences and our emotions, describing them as something we must somehow overcome.

With me so far?

Okay, so then we're told that some great and eternal "happiness" awaits us in some special place controlled by a being whom we cannot detect with our sensory organs. And we're also told that the penalty for not drenching this undetectable being in our love is... You guessed it, folks. Bad stuff. Pain, loneliness, fear. Emotions and physical sensations, the very thing we were supposedly trying to rise above.

But, even if a believer passes the test and makes it into the Good Place, how the hell is he supposed to suddenly rediscover happiness? After years of flogging himself with the "God good, me worthless sinner" stick, how can he possibly know how to enjoy anything?

Christianity, and all similarly-structured belief systems, are apparently designed to drive the human race stark raving mad.

So true...

But then again, Christianity™ isn't interested in truth.

"You're just jealous the voices talk to me!" is a popular Tee-shirt in the swilling beer and flashing their arse at police cameras at three in the morning class, here in the old world...

I never thought it could be used seriously... I want that on my grave... :lmao:

Berkowitz didn't think they were innocent, and God has a great track record of getting pissy with people for NOT killing... and why do you have so much faith in the output of Catholic Bishops...

As long as the inner voice that I hear lines up with the Word, I will continue to know it as the voice of God.

As I keep demonstrating, that inner voice you hear DOESN'T line up with the Word... it's telling you the opposite of the Word.

The Word doesn't show any kind of loving God... it shows a cruel, capricious, evil monster of a God, yet you seem to be deluded into believing it's all warm and fuzzy. Pathetic really...

But a voice that told Berkowitz to kill innocent people would not be God's voice, but the voice of the enemy or a demon.
What did your God tell Abraham to do? What was that voice telling him to do to his son?

That's right, it told him to kill his innocent son. Who's voice was it? IT WAS YOUR GODS VOICE!

Your God is down on "record" as having told people to kill innocent people... don't you dare try to claim he wouldn't. (and read the OT sometime... see the God you worship in all his gory glory)

You really are a condescending loon... and you are just illustrating that you're an arse hole by returning here... Isn't the home you escaped from missing you yet?

As to the rest... I ask you the same question I asked the other loon monkey on an ego frot... What makes the voices in your head more valid than the voices in David Berkowitz' head?

As far as condescending, I think you remain the master and I a lowlie disciple. :thanks:

As far as different voices being more valid than others, the Bible says that there are many voices. The fruit of where those voices lead you determine their origin. It would seem that a voice that told Astreja to "Get out" to save her life could well have been God's voice. But a voice that told Berkowitz to kill innocent people would not be God's voice, but the voice of the enemy or a demon.

As long as the inner voice that I hear lines up with the Word, I will continue to know it as the voice of God. The fact that you have never heard His voice does not provide any proof that I have not. Maybe you are just jealous and for that I am sorry. This was not my intent.

Kratos

Do your voices ever argue with each other? Like "get out!" then "no, YOU get out", "no you.." uhm uhh, you" "I was here first" "so?" "I'm tellin!" "shut up whinner" "Im not a whinner.." etc etc

That ever happen?

So long as he keeps his hands to himself we may all yet be safe.

Hey Kratos, what is "God" telling you to say here on the forum? Is he giving you some prompting and such?

In total God kills 371,186 people directly and orders another 1,862,265 people murdered - source: the Bible

Sorry all, but you have to wonder about someone who claims "God" speaks to him. Look at the things "God" told people to do in the bible. What's to say this Kratos can't wack someone and claim "God" told him to?

It is a scary thought. I hope Kratos will get help for his schizophrenia soon, if not for his own sanity for the safety of everyone else.

God has told enough folks to whack others... Ananias, and Sapphira were probably whacked by Peter... moral of that story: Never short change a guy who's nickname is 'Rocky' and hangs out with Isacarii (who were the Jews Thugees, more or less... they specialised in political kidnapping, assassination and torture... Judas was one... they were killed on sight by the Romans)

They made a promise to "god!" You don't short-change da big man or you get whacked.

But they did bury then nice and fast (hell her husband was in the ground before she even came in the door...that's old world service you don't find anymore).

Most of you have at least proven one area of the Bible and the words of Jesus as the truth. He said that we should never cast our pearls before swine or they will turn on us and rend us with it. I shared with you my most intimate experiences and you trample them underfoot as nothing.

I will not continue to draw you into blasheming against the Holy things of God. It is obvious that God is better at following His own admonition than I am as He has chosen to hide from you His true riches. If all I had ever experienced was religion and the words in a book, I would have left it behind long ago. I am sorry that you have never really met Jesus ( no I did not say believe in Christianity) or that you have never heard the voice of God. Jesus said that His sheep would know His voice and anyone who has never heard this voice was never His sheep, but only a convert to a religion.

Some day, you will all know that my words were true and that this could have been a fruitful discussion had you been able to discuss with others of differing experiences as adult co-citizens of this big, blue marble instead of treating them as nothing with no validity in their life. You have not harmed me one bit. You have only dimished yourselves by letting your pride exalt yourselves too far above others to learn what they have to teach you. Socrates said that every man is my teacher, but he was just another old dead guy, right?

Kratos

P.S. To those of you that did discuss your beliefs and conclusions as ladies and gentlemen, I truly wish the best for you in your journey. I do not practice "guilt by association", but I hope to get to know you better on the other boards. The "rules of engagement" in the lion's den are not what I choose to participate in or be identified with.

(scratches head) Fruitful discussion with someone who's convinced he already has the whole truth about Life, the Universe and Everything?

Oh, well. Good luck with that, Kratos.

Perhaps so...

The problem is, is that you've also experienced a theologically induced lobotomy -- which is exactly why you stayed.

So off with your bad-ass self, Kraptos. Your tenuous level of Christian™ self-righteousness is almost laughable.

...has failed.

Typical Christian attitude... ugly while trying to be pretty.

Oh, don't worry. Many of us have had the same experiences and beliefs that you refer to as meeting Jesus and hearing his voice. We are just smarter than you and have since called it for what it is; contrived.

Was that an insult? You said it yourself, you're a sheep. No sheep here pumpkin. Sorry your fishing expedition only came back to you with a bloody worm at the end of your hook. Try casting into a lower level gene pool, you are sure to have better luck. Start at the prison. I hear they convert like no end there.

I just am so saddened how we cannot at times recognize that everyone has some pearls that they give away only to have them not appreciated at all

Hans wrote a post above to you Kratos where he gave you his pearls

sheeeesh we all have things precious enough to us that we are willing to give them away only to have them rejected, dissected, challanged and such

if our own pearls are the only thing of any value to us then we are never going to gain anything from those around us that are different than us

And in fact, why limit it to pearls, some have diamonds, emeralds and all kinds of valuable truths.

I love what Truman said

I never learned a damn thing from someone that agree'd with me

tho I wouldnt put that in cement, I refuse to just lump everyone that doesnt agree with me into the swine category

for that matter I think that whole saying is not meant to seperate the haves and the have nots as if there are haves and have nots, we all have and have not

the entire animal kingdom is to me representative of aspects of our own nature. Evens the playing field to me

oh well

just saying my peace after reading such harsh words from a fellow believer
