Challenge for Christians - GO and preach!

I know, I know.  His answers are always yes, no, and wait a while.  Then why is it when he is asked to help a christian perform Mark 16 the answer is always no?

I don't care what the 12 apostles did.  That's just what some book says and it can't be verified.  What about here and now?  What about with you?  What about with someone you know?  Were you able to verify it?

Mark 16 17 And these signs will accompany those who BELIEVE: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."

Here it is agian xers. How many people have been healed by the holy spook in jesus name that you were actualy witness to. A paralysis victim? Someone who was blind? Something that didn't have help from doctors?

Yall should be able to do these things yourselves.

I swear, Mythra, TK, and thankful truly are gems!

But I really am seriously thinking of making all kinds of T-shirts with these goodies on the front and back.  I'm getting great ideas from this Forum! hehe.

I got an even better idea. Start your own website and market them. It might be a good way to put yourself through college.

Nah. I already have money for college and university later on. But the website is a good idea though. A website were I have mpeg's of me pestering xers with pesky scriptures. Like Mark 16. Or an interview with a pastor trying to explain biblical conradictions. hehe.

Ah, another western boy.  I'm from Idaho and families from both my mom and dad are from Montana.  What small town if you don't mind me asking?  I know some members of my family are (maybe were) preachers.

(Whew! You people have been BUSY, while I slept! I gotta lot of catching up to do.)

Hey Vigile! Well, to answer your question, I'm not truly "from" Monatana, yet it is where I currently live. Great Falls, to be precise.

I'll spare you the details, but the road travelled went like this: BORN in Indiana, raised in Chicago, joined the military, and wound up retiring from said military here where I was stationed--Malmstrom AFB, Great Falls MT.

It ain't that GREAT, but after being away from Chi-town for so long, I find that Huge cities make me ill. I can't even visit home without feeling threatened! So I retired where I'm comfy.

Oh well. I'm off to walk the dog for our morning constitutional before the temperature rises. I'll be back later to wade through the tangled web of this forum.

So heres what I've seen so far.

ExChristians: "If you Christians believe so much, why dont you show your true faith and go out into the world and preach to those that really need to hear it."

Christians: "Yeh...well.....um....yeah, thats a good point. A lot of Christians dont do the right thing. We dont like them either."

:Hmm:

:vent: WTF?! Jesus would be rolling over on his cross if he saw what pussies his followers had become. Looks like he died for nothing.

Just a bunch of Christians sitting in their air conditioned churches singing, praying, and occasionally bothering the hell out of those that dont want any part of it. You are ALL the same. You think you are better than everyone else simply because you believe in a fairy tale. :ugh:

It is truly sad.

Actually this topic reveals something that's interesting, that a true Christian should go out on missions. (Like TAP has)

So like TK said, if only 10,000 go out there, that would mean only 10,000 real Christians here in US!

The "world" is not necesarily a foreign country. While it is true that the United States is dripping with a certain type of commercialistic Christianity, there are not very many people here living as Christ instructed.

The “world” is not necessarily a foreign country? I know you guys have the “World Series” but you do know that the entire world doesn’t partake in it don’t you? The world is actually round (spherical in fact) with lumps of land on it called countries or in some instances, islands. These lumps of land would be classified as foreign if you do not came from said part of land, hence the term “a foreign country”. These foreign countries contain what are generally termed as nations, which bring us back to what is said in the bible for Christians to do:

Matthew 28:19-20

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age."

I mean, that’s what it actually says. Truly, Im not making this up. Its there, look! Its seem self explanatory to me and not liable to misinterpretation unlike other passages in the bible.

From Jay -

1. The "world" is not necesarily a foreign country. While it is true that the United States is dripping with a certain type of commercialistic Christianity, there are not very many people here living as Christ instructed. (For example, Jesus was not a political activist, nor did he ever once encourage such things. In fact, I am unaware of anything in the Bible that instructs believers to attempt societal change.) kosmos, as used in the Bible in passages like this, simply means those who are not saved, as contrasted with those who are.

Not trying to be flippant, but...SO? What has this got to do with ME and my observations? This "commercial Christianity" is an INTERNAL dilemma for the CHURCH. That is something YOU must attend to.

And IF you do correct this "lukewarmness", what next? Will you GO INTO THE WORLD? Or will you remain in the USA, repeatedly trying to "tell us" about this "Jesus", whom we ALL have heard you speak of before?

As has been noted by others, "Who in the USA has NOT heard the name of 'Jesus Christ'?" I defy you to find ANYONE above the age of four who hasn't been bombarded with X-Mas stories of a virgin birth in the manger, and the Easter resurrection tale.

And as far as knowing about "God"? You know darn well that in this theistic society you can NOT escape God-belief. Even our stinking cash says, "In God We Trust."

Does this make America a "Christian Nation"? You and I both know the answer is "NO!" We agree that even the so-called Xians don't act very Xian. (At least not like the bible version of "Jesus".)

However, this is NOT because people have NOT heard about Christ. It is because they have chosen NOT to BE like Christ. (Believers and non-believers alike.)

In THIS country, if ANYONE wants to be a Christian, all they need to do is SAY so. Just pick up a bible, toddle off to church, repent, get baptized, etc., etc., etc. NO ONE will stop you. And MOST people know this.

But in OTHER countries, they not only DON'T know, but IF they did know, to whom would they turn? Their Muslim families? Not bloody likely, mate!

THIS is why YOU should be expending YOUR efforts abroad, and not wasting time in "fruitless debate", arguing about words and "endless geneologies" with an apostate atheist like myself and my compadres. (IF I ever wanted to return to Christ, I already know where to find "him".)

So you see, the problem is not that you need to further evangelize here in the USA. THAT mission has been accomplished. People KNOW all ABOUT your "Jesus". Is this knowledge accurate? Probably not. But there is NOTHING preventing anyone from finding out at their leisure. THIS situation does NOT call for further evangelism, just education. Again, AN INTERNAL CHURCH MATTER.

What you (the Church) have failed to accomplish is to "teach them everything I have commanded you." You have not "made disciples" of those who have come to you.

The problem is within YOUR church, and those professing to know Christ. (As YOU continue to lament.)

So, again, how is this MY problem? And why do I need to keep hearing about American street evangelism efforts? Can you REALLY believe anyone in this country hasn't heard you YET?

In summary, after you Xians fix yourself and become REAL, what will you do? Stay here and preach "Christ" where he's ALREADY been preached? Or will you GO INTO THE WORLD?

And, Jay, lest you attempt to tap dance and say that the KOSMOS includes the USA, let me remind you of what happened in the book of Acts. Jesus's disciples were CONTENT to believe their KOSMOS was Jerusalem. That's when the Lord sicced Saul of Tarsus on them to FORCE them to move elsewhere and spread the message.

As has been said by preachers, "If we don't do Acts 1:8, we will suffer Acts 8:1".

I agree with Thankful.

It's wonderful that Xian missionaries "do good". And I applaud them, as I do every OTHER SECULAR humanitarian action.

However, and MOST Xians will confirm this, "the gospel" cannot be safely preached in many countries. And why not? Because it carries a death sentence, both for the missionaries AND those who "receive Christ".

So what happens? The message isn't preached! And why not? Because NO ONE WANTS TO DIE FOR A LIE!!!!!!!

And I don't blame them!!!!

We've come full circle, folks. Xians don't believe in God, Jesus, the Holy Spook nor the bible, any more than the rest of us NON-Xians. If they did, then the threat of death, "this momentary inconvenience and suffering" would be as NOTHING compared to the "riches to be gained in Christ Jesus"!

If "to live is Christ, and to die is gain", then what is the frickin' hold-up? GO! Get your head chopped off by Achmed the Muslim for preaching his sister the "good news"? I'm sure "God" has a special seat reserved for a martyr such as yourself.

(For you AND the poor Muslim girl you'll get killed with you.)

What's that you say, Xian? You don't think that would be prudent? Well, neither do I.

But then again, I AM NOT THE XIAN WHO CLAIMS TO BELIEVE IN THIS SHIT.

YOU are.

Hang on there Thankful and TK421, you both blatantly ignored this post:

"Living a good christian life" does not include walking around telling people that they will burn in hell. .

But hang on…..he later posted this:

However, it is those who have heard the Truth and reject it that will receive the FULL cup of God's wrath. .

whoops sorry, you’re both right. My bad.

But yes, a lot of times I do DELIBERATELY ignore what is said in a post(s). Usually because it's such drivel that it's not worth a reply. And other times it's because SO much drivel was spoken, that I don't feel like wading through EACH sophmoric point!

I prefer to stay focused and not get dragged down a useless debate thread on a side issue. (And Xians LOVE to sidetrack the issue!)

If anyone wants to debate "hell", "God's wrath", or "What is living the good christian life?", they may feel free to do so elsewhere. I got another fish I'm trying to fry here.

[sidebar -- has anyone figured out what Category Xian our lad Jay is? Shameless plug for my other thread ends. ]

As if I doubt that Tap.  :nono:

All of us human beings are natual suckers at times, however I must make it clear that your character is not in question. It is already evident that you care about people and believe that god is love and you try to live up to being christ like. Which is another damning proof that your god does not exist. If anyone should be able to heal folks it would be christians like you. (I am serious as a heart attack here Tap.I ain't playin.)

Thank you for reaffirming my unbelief in bible god.

:thanks::thanks:

Most excellent point, D_C! If TAP can't heal, then...WHO CAN? Who will "God" listen too?

I'm reminded of the time Billy Graham was "challenged" to a healing duel by some other religious dude. (Hindu, maybe?) Billy declined. He humbly said that he was not supposed to test God.

Sounds so pure and holy, don't it? In reality, that's the standard Xian dodge. They KNOW that healing isn't legitimate, so they hide behind all sorts of "I don't have enough faith" and "God can't be FORCED to do MY will" excuses.

Sorry, folks. But we see right through you. It's all lies.

Thank you for reaffirming my unbelief in bible god.

Here, let me share my "ignorance" on what the writer of the book of Mark really meant.

16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.  "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."

I'm with the writer so far.

16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

If we read the whole chapter the writer sure does seem to put a lota emphasis on the word 'believe'. What does the writer mean here by believe? Belive what? That jesus died for our sins? That jesus is the son of god? Xers gota believe in these things to be saved. This is what the writer is saying here.

16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe;

Here the writer is, putting emphasis on believe again; JUST LIKE HE DID ABOVE IN 16:16. Gota believe jesus is god and died for our sins. That jesus is the only way to god. Thats all parts of the good news an xer must BELIEVE and share with others.

16:17..In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;  "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 16:18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."

How to tell a person that believes jesus is the only way to god and has died for our sins that we may have salvation.

A person that believes jesus is god and is our salvation will:

cast out devils,

speak in tongues,

handle serpents,

heal the sick.

And the believer in christs salvation can:

drink deadly poisons,

( No wonder most xers don't care about polution. It can't kill them. hehe. )

16:19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

Jesus died for nothing. No one believes in him.

16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the WORD with signs following. Amen

Hogwash. If this were true Tap; then you and other xers like YOU would be able to heal folks of any disease or ailment.

No xer has ever done these things. According to this bible writer folks who believe that jesus is the son of god and died for our sins to give us salvation, should do this. I guess you are going to hell right along with the rest of us heathens Tap. And your a good person!

A god intelligent enough to design the whole damn universe can't possibly be this stupid. Allegedly christ died for our sins; but what the hell for if he won't help xers believe? The bible is absolute horse puckey!

I remember that these things bothered me, and gave me a bad conscious when I was Christian. I couldn't get enough faith, trust and courage to do it. Even though I did go on two mission trips, knocked doors, walked the city - downtown evangelizing. I still was scared every single time.

I prayer for sick at meetings, homes and so on, but never did I see anything that could be close to a miracle, rather it all could be explained with conincidenses and random natural events.

Even though we find many Christians TRULY loving, the snowjob has them believing that people deserve to suffer eternally for not accepting their belief in Jesus.  That makes even the most loving person, capable of also being extremly cold.

Yea. It really disgusts me. We are all damaged goods one way or another but religion really adds to that. Religion also attracts hucksters.

Faith healers really piss me off. It doesn't help much in knowing some of them really want to heal out of geniune concern for the sick and thier families. I think fantasyland solutions only hurt people more than they were before in finding a way to accetp the situation of a terminaly ill loved one.

I had a flashback of idaho as I was writing this. Penecostals are the most idiotic xers. Some of them only look to miracles and forget they have hands to actualy help people. And if you are a nonbeliever some will drop you like a hot potato since you would only be a distraction from thier euphoric fixation on gawd. I was neglected by my mom and dad. The house was a fucking pigsty. Church. Church and more Church for them. Sometimes they even forgot to go shopping.

I hate all magical thinking.

Or worse, those suffering in this life deserve it becuase they sinned. I was told Jews deserved holocaust becuase of thier involvement with Christs death. Heh...I was so brainwashed.

Yes...the word "nations" in the above is the Greek word ethnos and means people groups, not specific geographic locations.
