Moderator TrueFreedom Posted November 6, 2012 Moderator Share Posted November 6, 2012 technically no. The british have not colonies now. So, yeah... So we should waited until they gave the territories back to the Natives....who were mostly dead....or something... No. Many other former colonies didn't require a war to break free. Ironically, it was probably the Revolutionary war that was the beginning of the end of the british empire. My point was we would not be colonies now should the as you said "the good Christian Men off boston" not revolted. The colonial period began its decline with the end of WWI. and finally died after WWII though for some stupid reason the British still tried to hold on to India, but not for very long. It was a system which was going to eventually collapse. It didn't require a revolution. Gotcha. My point was that, if they were consistent, these good patriots would not be in favor of what took place when this country was founded. They would have submitted to their authorities who were placed there by God. Fundy Xns make statements like this and then talk about wanting to return to America's godly heritage. What do they want, slavery? Aboriginal displacement? ok, enough tangents...

expat674
Europe wakes up to news of the Obama's victory, and I see this on FB; "The Laws of Sowing & Reaping have proven true once again! America has sown to the flesh & has now reaped 4 more years of absolute corruption. (Galatians 6:7) God set it up that way!" so if God "set it up that way," why are they so mad Obama won?
expat674
Perhaps it is because I am tired and a bit grouchy this morning, but this kind of brain dead posting of glib nonsense is really starting to get on my nerves; "'let hope arise, let hope arise, let hope arise...'. Singing this amazing song on the way to work. God is good :-)'" Let's establish the existence of the god of whom you sing about before we assign him any such qualities as good. Anyway, his autobiography makes him out to be quite a woman hating, mass murdering tyrant.

Christians don't literally believe that God is in control - at least they certainly don't act like it. The only religious group that I'm aware of that does believe God is in control and act like it are the Amish. When I-69 was being extended through southern Indiana, the new interstate ran through an Amish community. The highway planners were frustrated with the Amish community because they refused to even be involved in the process of figuring out which county roads needed bridges over the new interstate or not. Just might be a good morning for simply posting "Romans 13:1" to see the reactions.

freeasabird
This led me to defriend one of my old frat brothers this morning: http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/c0.0.403.403/p403x403/558847_4698722996322_1438856481_n.jpg In case it doesn't come through, it's a pic of an "I voted" sticker, with handwritten at the bottom of it "for the American". inorbit
This was one of the first election responses I saw from a fellow former IHOPer. (They moved several years ago to be a part of a different ministry.) i just had to get my little zinger in there, which was actually appreciated by both "sides" (though I was the only one in the conversation on the other "side"). All the IHOPers this morning... You should see their status updates! We've basically elected the antichrist as a nation! We're doomed! Start stocking up on food! Spend time in fasting! The wrong crook got elected! lol *eyeroll* If America has just "chosen against God...." but this election was also "God's choice..." Wait... Akheia
I've been watching a flurry of "moving away" comments on Twitter. Last election it was Canada, but we successfully made fun of those tardbiscuits enough that they all know Canada's much more socialist than Obama could ever manage. So now they're aiming at the only other English-speaking, mostly-white-people-populated country they can think of: AUSTRALIA. Australians, the only consolation I can offer y'all is that fundie right-wingers are all talk and no walk. You're in absolutely no danger of any of these greasy fuckwits actually going to all that effort and expense.

Just might be a good morning for simply posting "Romans 13:1" to see the reactions. That scripture is better than the one I was thinking of. I was going to say "Those who prayed for the right candidate to be elected please see John 14:13." But Romans 13:1 is much more wicked fun!!! Some whiner last night posted to FB, "please dont post mean things or laugh at us republicans...." Waaaaaa!, Well, I'm not going to but some of them so deserve it for being assholes all the way up to election night.
Sunflower
Someone from my church posted this.... Firstly, how did this show we are close to end times? Humans have been this way forever! Secondly, 'become a lover of God so that your eternity has a reserved spot in heaven,' uhh fear tactics much? It's never made sense to me how Christians can't see that their God is supposedly telling them LOVE ME OR I'LL SEND YOU TO BE TORTURED ETERNALLY, SONS-O-BITCHES! How is that genuine love? midniterider
Well, I did the Romans 13:1 on FB and got this: Xian: Yes, be a responsible citizen. All governments are under God. Pay your taxes, pay our bills, respect your leaders. Don't break the rules, follow the law. Live responsibly because it's the right way to live. Xian: the key is that it's under God. Our government has eliminated God.... Me: Per the NIV: Romans 13:1 -" Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God." Just for clarity. Xian: mine was from the message translation. you have to read the chapter in it's entirety Xian: again, God is the key...government has separated itself from Him. Xian: And if you want to quote this there's other bible verses to quote about gay marriage, women being different from men, divorce, when life begins....just can't use one part of the Bible to promote what someone wants. What the bible and Jesus are clear on is Love of one another. :-) Me: But would your argument be the same had Romney won? Xian: the POTUS is the POTUS. My country is my country. But my God is my God. I just hope that the right thing is done. In the meantime, I'll prepare for the return. :-) Me: :-) You like who you like, I like who I like. I doubt either candidate would make vast changes in my life. In the last 20 years none of them have. Xian: and which part of the argument? I see none here. Just that there is a difference of opinion. Me: Would Romans 13:1 apply if Romney would have won? Me: Or would I still be cherry picking? Xian: My main point is that the Bible is a whole....not a part. You apply all of it or none of it. Yes Romans 13:1 would still apply because there are people who don't agree with Romney. It's always applied to everyone. Xian: God is the supreme ruler. He created everything and rules over it, including you and me. But because He loved us he also gave us free will and the freedom to choose, because love that is forced is not love at all. Me: I agree, love that is forced is not love at all. (This Xian was posting whiny post-election stuff on FB and jumped right on my Romans 13:1 post.....) lol. There are lots of holes to poke in their argument but I decided not to start a holy war.
inorbit
If your Christian friend wants to pull the context trump card, you might want to mention the context in which Paul was writing that letter to the Christians in Rome. Yes, that was a REALLY pro-Christian government they were living under (eyeroll). 1 Peter chapter 2 is also perfect for this.
