Goodbye Jesus

Sunday Dispatch

Today is Easter Sunday, which this year happens to fall on April 20, the birthday of the most famous "atheist" of the 20th century.  What follows are some of this "atheist's" words.

“My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a

fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded

by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and

summoned men to fight against them and who, God’s truth! was greatest

not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian

and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord

at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the

Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was his fight

against the Jewish poison. Today, after two thousand years, with

deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact

that it was for this that He had to shed his blood upon the Cross. As

a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have

the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice… And if there is

anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly, it is

the distress that daily grows. For as a Christian I have also a duty

to my own people. And when I look on my people I see them work and

work and toil and labor, and at the end of the week they have only

for their wages wretchedness and misery. When I go out in the morning

and see these men standing in their queues and look into their

pinched faces, then I believe I would be no Christian, but a very

devil, if I felt no pity for them, if I did not, as did our Lord two

thousand years ago, turn against those by whom today this poor people

are plundered and exposed.”

Oh wait, those don't sound like the words of an atheist at all.  Should I give credit to the speaker of those words?  The speaker that christians like to compare all atheists to, even though this man was demonstrably a christian.  I think I will.

[Adolf Hitler, speech in Munich on April 12, 1922, countering a

political opponent, Count Lerchenfeld, who opposed antisemitism on

his personal Christian feelings. Published in "My New Order", quoted

in Freethought Today April 1990]

Thank you Dude. This is perfect timing as I'm having a discussion about Hitler's belief or lack thereof.

See, something good did come from this thread of tin pony.

Ironhorse,

Yesterday you replied to me in the Dan Barker thread, asking me not to worry and saying that you will try to answer all the outstanding questions.  Thank you for giving me your word on that.   In the light of your post, I have a piece of helpful advice for you.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please ask yourself this question...  Which do you think will help you gain our trust?  #1 or #2...?

1.

Posting another Sunday Dispatch, before you've fulfilled your promise to try and answer all of our outstanding questions.

2.

Posting another Sunday Dispatch, after you've fulfilled your promise to try and answer all of our outstanding questions.

Thanks,

BAA.

I.
My first thought was, he lied in every word,
That hoary cripple, with malicious eye
Askance to watch the workings of his lie
On mine, and mouth scarce able to afford
Suppression of the glee, that pursed and scored
Its edge, at one more victim gained thereby.

II.
What else should he be set for, with his staff?
What, save to waylay with his lies, ensnare
All travellers who might find him posted there,
And ask the road? I guessed what skull-like laugh
Would break, what crutch ’gin write my epitaph
For pastime in the dusty thoroughfare.

Ironhorse, this is an ex-christian forum.  We have not only heard the other side, but we have spent years of our lives trying to live the christian life.

You need to take your own advice and start hearing our side.  Many of us on the forum are tired of having to repeat things over and over again.

This is why people label christians hypocrites, because you are giving out advice to us that you don't actually follow.

Thanks to IronHorse, many here who were considering a return to Christianity have since dispeled such notions.  Which was probably what he was hoping for in the first place.

The reason for Christian troll postings:

The attempt to get people to feel guilty for not believing in their imaginary friend Jesus.

I hope Jehovas Witnesses and Mormons show up at his door every Saturday!

We are religious alcoholics. We know what religion tasted like and the stupid shit we did under it's influence AND how hard it was to beat the addiction. We realise the negative impact it had on us and those around us. We DO NOT need watered down vodka once a week!

Christianity is a candy coated turd. Initially it tastes pretty damn good...but after a while there's nothing left but shit.

I was going to post this too.

Then I remembered that the guy who posted about the virtue of "hearing the other side" has declared that in this thread he will just post stuff and not respond to anything. So hypocrisy to a level that definitely constitutes trolling. If I were a mod, I would close this thread and warn him that he's either here to discuss, or he isn't.

This thread does seem like a waste.  Perhaps it is time to ask that it be locked.  Does anybody disagree besides Tinfilly?

I agree. Time for a lockup. Enough with the post-and-run faux-hipness. Didn't Florduh warn ironhorse clear back on page one or two that he couldn't use Ex-C as his personal journal?

Been entertaining, though. Lots of fun stuff -- none of it posted by ironhorse.

The other side of what?

A good question to ask.

I think he meant one should know (be aware) of the opposing view.

That is one reason I like this forum. It gives me the chance to share my views

and I also get to read what those who disagree with me think.

I'm still having fun posting my own Sunday dispatches on here, to counter IH's stuff. I guess that's one vote for keeping it open (even though my vote is outnumbered 3 - 1).

Holy fuck bro. Our views used to be your views, we are not Hindus or Muslims. We don't need your parroted lies that we know all too well about, it's not about YOU!

Funny, then, that you have never shown a single sign of actually caring about what other people here think. So you read ... for what reason?
