God will feed them and take care of them because he knows what they need. Starving children in Africa... well, if they're Christian, they shouldn't worry about food. Or, perhaps you mean the context was that those verses was only for the disciples at that time, or the Jews, or the Pharisees, or the bloogaboogas in the bushes, but not humanity as a whole, and definitely not the starving children today. You know, I think John 3:16 was only for the Jews of that day too. When Jesus talked about absolutes and everyone and it only applies to Jews of that time, then all other verses would follow the same rule. Why would it not? Maybe you only know through the Holy Spirit? Right? So you will know which verse is literal and which one is metaphorical, and you will know which one applies only to the Jews of that time and which one applies to you or all humanity. Cool. Once again, it is hard for us to grasp the fact that God thinks so highly of us and delegated his plan to save the world to a few Jewish disciples of Jesus. Please revise your statistics: Self-proclaimed Christians make up approximately 1/3rd of the world population. The world share of Christians decreases significantly if one only counts those who are "born again" or excludes Catholics for any reason (I make the distinction for the sake of the larger readership). Just receive God's forgiveness in Jesus Christ. It is as easy as opening your heart to this truth. ( But this notion that it all depends on Jesus and not on you can be a difficult idea to grasp and many miss it. ) So if you say that parents are teaching their children to 'fear hell', I have some problem with that. No doubt some parents may do so. But it is because they do not fully understand the Gospel message! They are not acting like Christians. If they teach fear of hell thinking the children would better behave because of fear, that is not Christianity. That is a man made religion. And by the way, this kind of thinking is likely to be more common outside of Christianity than in it. You can dress this all up in pretty pink bows and satin all you want, but the bottom line is that you want to avoid hell because you fear it. Otherwise, you wouldn't want to avoid it, would you? Things like 'How can I go to Heaven when I die?', 'How can I become a better person and have better life?' etc. When you are settled on those real issues, perhaps we can argue about these concepts...
