Sunday Morning Heathen Coffee Klatsch

Kelli

Recommended Posts

Got up at noon and made breakfast (fried eggs, corn grits, and tea). Went to karate, then over to the grocery store to buy some yogurt. Followed home by several bags of munchables, including some Buffalo Wing and Blue Cheese flavoured potato chips and a bag of Murku (cumin-flavoured rice and chickpea sticks).

Had to go out again on a short jaunt over to my aunt's place, to pick up a late birthday present for my daughter.

Came home, baked a gluten-free orange cake, did a major cleaning of the aquarium in the dining room. Fussed with the power filter, which refused to come back on; took it apart and found that a small pebble had lodged itself deep in the pump impeller mechanism. Cleaned that out, and now it works fine.

Currently half an hour away from a lovely chicken dinner with garlic-and-jerk-seasoning mashed potatoes. And some of the aforementioned orange cake for dessert. :woohoo:

I went to church, but for once I didn't complain but I was bored...

I came home afterward, put together a DVD shelf, posted for an online class, graded some papers at school, watched a 2-hour Doomsday special on the History Channel and now I am posting here. I finished a great book as well, "American Gospel" by Jon Meacham. I listened to several podcasts of the "Good Atheist" and one podcast of "Freethought Radio".

All in all, my Sunday was great.

Well, it's February the somethingth and I'm not at church either - since the last time I went I was threatened by the guy doing the preaching (a porn addict and a bully who hid it well from those who reckoned him a spiritual leader) I don't think I'm missing much. Let's face it who wants to sit and absorb the latest variant on Mithraism?

Wear a tin foiled baseball cap to church and note the remarks.

This morning I did what I did last Sunday - I got out early and went looking for birds. Today we just saw an Osprey!

Picture links later...I have an appointment with a Pelican...

I’ve been up since at 8:30am. My partner is still asleep nearly three hours later and I am enjoying the solitude, several cups of coffee, and reading my favorite website. It’s started out sunny but another storm is expected and I expect even more snow will cover the ground that has been sealed in ice for the past two months. We had a lot of rain a few days ago and the texture of the snow outside my window completely changed, it looks like the top of some enormous meringue pie. I had to bring in wood yesterday from the woodshed and the snow was so hardened by the rain and single-digit temperatures that I could walk on it without creating indentations. Totally cool!

Trashy wrote about birdwatching so I have to say that I stepped out of the house this morning to the harsh calls of a whole flock of parrots! There were about a dozen of them -- big green birds with red on their faces. One was different. I think it was a blue fronted Amazon parrot. It was green with a yellow head and some red on its wings. I knew I would be late to my usual breakfast with my friend, but rushed in to get my binoculars -they were just beautiful.

I'm being lazy - and I love it, I am well into my four day weekend and it is doing me a world of good. Later on I am going to cook a roast and read the paper. Turn on the TV to see if there are any movies to watch.

I went to Home Depot and got soem new paint for my room. Next week my 16th birthday may beover. :o

I'm totally re-doing my room. It used to be my sister's room, but we switched rooms and and so I got stuck with this girly green room with butterfly wallpaper. I took down most of the girly crap about a year ago, and then the wall paper came down the day after my sweet 16th last month. And I am getting rid of the girly comforter, and have a far better one now. And a better bed.

And I still have to sign up for this forum thing. Crap.

Oh, and I am very glad, because this summer will be the 3rd year anniversary of my (parents) leaving the last church. :D

Yesterday spouse and I went into town and visited my sis, BIL, and new niece. We sang sea shanties and Irish drinking songs to the baby and got her giggling like a tanked sorority girl.

We got in late, so this morning we tried to sleep in, but the dogs wouldn't let us - Peanut started jumping on both of us at about 6 this morning. After a few hours trying to catch a bit more snoozes, we gave up. Turns out both dogs have colitis, so we've been dealing with that all morning...

Between rounds of taking the dogs out to evacuate, we've managed to clean up the apartment some more - get rid of some trash, pack up a few more things to go to charity, put up some shelves in the storage closet... we also moved our furniture around a bit so we have some more space.

We're chillin' right now, waiting for a pizza to arrive. Later we'll probably play some video games and enjoy some sophisticated adult refreshments.

I just realized, I'd rather spend a morning cleaning up rancid dog shit than park my ass on some preacher's pew. :woohoo:

Got up at noon, had breakfast, went to karate.

Coffee break at Tim Horton's. Went for a romp through Canadian Tire, but they didn't have any good specials this week.

Got home, ate leftovers from last night's chicken supper. Played violin for a while, and came to an Agreement with my metronome... I need to work with it much more, but usually dislike it intensely. Today... Not bad.

Now I have my digital camcorder out and am trying to figure out how to connect it to a Fedora Core 6 Linux box to make a webcam. I'm trying to do so through a USB2 port 'cause I don't yet have a FireWire card in the Linux system, and I ain't swiping the FW card from my XP system 'cause it's working just fine and I'm leaving it the hell alone.

Thus far I've managed to videotape me with one of my cats; download and install the VLC video player, and actually play a Windows Media video that I couldn't previously play on this computer. So the evening is far from a washout, and it's only 8:00 p.m. now.

(wanders off to yet another geeky part of the Internet looking for video tools)

So far I have split a pot of coffee with the wife and surfed the 'net a bit while the wife finished preparing wine bottles. After a nice low-carb breakfast we will proceed to fill about 30 bottles with Petite Syrah which we made from a kit. After that we will start two more batches. One is a sickly-sweet Blueberry Shiraz for a friend who has fallen in love with it. The other will be a very nice high-end Cabernet Malbec Carmenere kit. I can't wait!

Well, I was planning on getting on the net a little sooner, but my darmed microwave took a shit this morning, so I've already been out shopping. Wasn't too worried about it cause it was real old. Hung onto it because it was a style that fit well in small spaces, but has been discontinued. Now I have to move some stuff around to accomodate the new one. Picked up a few other things while I was out. I will likely stay in the rest of the day, catching up on chores and housework, you know. Exciting life, huh?

I'm dyeing yarn, rinsing yarn, hanging yarn, winding yarn, packing yarn. To be sure, there is no lack of fiber in my life.

Went on about a 4 mile walk while listening to web design podcasts.

Came back and ate breakfast. Some Eggos and coffee. The wife works weekends and it just doesn't seem worth the effort to do much more for breakfast for just one person. I do like making breakfast though, so maybe tomorrow when we're both at home I'll put something together that involves more than just opening the freezer and pushing the toaster lever down.

Spent a couple hours working on bug fixes for a forum of mine.

Braveheart just ended so I'm going to have to find something else to put on TV. Hopefully there's something good on the DVR because Sunday TV generally sucks... Turns out Cinemax on demand is running 300 so I'm finally going to get around to watching that.

And after that I'm going to work on another website project of mine that I hope to have up and running by this summer.

Basically I'm sitting on my ass watching TV and typing on my notebook

Woke up, tinkered around on the intranets for a while. The Wife is up now and talking to her godless sister on the phone. When she's done chatting, we'll make biscuits & gravy.

I'm reading, studying, writing the mid-term report. Currently I'm struggling with 19th century English in John Stuart Mills article about Utilitarianism. (He got the most long-running sentences known to man! It's like verbal super-string-theory.)

I stayed in bed watching footie on telly - my team, Hull City, lost yesterday and I wanted to see the goals.

Later I went to some Christian pals for dinner. They had a heated debate about whether Job was a real historical character while I enjoyed a post prandial snooze.

As a full time mom, Sundays are just like every other day of the week, except that the family is home to get in my way! lol

I made breakfast for everyone, watched a little TV, took the smallest one to ballet class, practiced driving our new manual transmission car while she was in ballet. Got some groceries, did some laundry. Wow, I have an exciting life.
